Peggy De Silva and I planned for the September Enak at Restoran Wan Fo Yuan at No 8 Jalan Panggong in Chinatown.
This part of Chinatown is proving to be a pretty interesting 'foodie' enclave with the Malaya Hainan Restaurant down the road and the Old China Cafe on the adjacent street.
We checked out this 30 year old Chinese Restaurant a couple of months back and decided the traditional Buddhist ‘mock’ vegetarian fare would be a good experience for our members.
The ambience is humble but it is comfortable and has air conditioning.
After lunch there was time for Enakers and their guests to browse and shop in the neighboring stores, (a wholesale gift shop and a Chinese Art supply Store). A few of us went upstairs to Aku Café for our favorite beverages.
From the feed- back we had, everyone seemed to have an enjoyable experience. The yam basket, wontons and the ‘ seafood’ with broccoli were favorites. Some members couldn’t get over how much the ‘ mock’ abalone and shrimps looked like and tasted like the real thing ☺
