Terima Kasih to Vivin Sjamsir for organizing another fabulous Enak lunch. This time it was Sundanese from West Java’. Vivin adds ” it’s the #2nd famous food in Indonesia and Malaysia”. Vivin had introduced us to West Sumatra Minangkabau cuisine last November after Rose Gan’s informative talk on the Minangkabau Culture and Heritage. She carefully selected a sumptuous spread for us to taste. It included the delicious Nasi Liwet wrapped in banana leaves, local salad greens with a variety of hot and spicy sambals, delicious oxtail soup and a most interesting selection of meat and vegetable dishes of the region. Two of our participants were vegetarians and they were surprised with the choices they had.

The restaurant was named after a small town Cibiuk in West Java. This place is famous for its traditional dishes of Ayam Kampung (Free Range Chicken) and Spicy Sambal (Chilli Paste). All menus in Cibiuk Restaurants in Indonesia and Malaysia are authentic Sundanese. They still serve the the traditional way of using banana leaves in many of their signature dishes. Sundanese cuisine does not use coconut milk ( Santan) in their cuisine while Minangkabau does. We were a cosy group of 11 and I am happy to say included 2 Enak/ MCG returnees and a guest spouse.
