July’s Enak was held at A Li Yaa, a small Sri Lankan restaurant at Plaza Damansara. It was a small intimate affair with only 6 members in town at the time.  Attending were Suparna Kundu, Rosemary Chin, Maryann Kobzan-Diakow, Anjeeta Nayar and of course the organizers Vicki Fennessy and Michelle Pease.

While we all love it when many of our Enakers can attend an Enak together, it was also lovely to have a small group so that we could all get to know each other better.

All the food was absolutely yummy, just so you know what you missed out on and to help with ordering during any potential future visits you may make, below is what we were served. We had a set menu but there was lots of variety available. The Appam in particular was “to die for”.

On arrival we were served pappadums with a mixed Sri Lankan sambal set comprising katta (chili), seeni (sweet onion), pol (coconut) and karupillay (curry leaves).

For appetizer: Cutlets – plate of crab and plate of potatoes and peas

Mains:

Steamed red rice Idiyappam (plain string hoppers)

Plain sothi gravy made with light coconut milk and aromatic herbs and spices

Seafood Kulaiyal (oven baked rice wrapped in a banana leaf)

Sri Lankan omelette

Eggplant sambal

Dessert: Sweet Appam

The service staff were excellent, helping us out as needed, they even gave us all cute cloth bags with the A Li Yaa logo before we left.

I will definitely be going again, maybe next time when my husband Michael visits from Yangon.
