On Thursday the 14th of June 14 Enakers joined Vicki Fennessy and I at Little Heritage House,23 Jalan 17/56 Seksyen 17, Petaling Jaya.

Little Heritage House is a restaurant that specialises in a type of cuisine which is known by many names: Peranakan, Straits Chinese or Baba/Nonya.  For those of you who don’t know of it, it is a mix between Chinese and Malay cuisines with just a pinch of other Asian influences.

Little Heritage House was initially set up in Penang in 1999 by two enterprising brothers selling antiques & knick knacks.  Over the years several branches were set up in Penang before expanding to the Klang Valley in 2002. In 2012 they finally decided to open a restaurant to promote their native Penang fine cuisine, This became Little Heritage House. They wanted Malaysians from all walks of life, races and ages to experience the well acclaimed, fine taste of Penang in an authentic cosy ambience. Using handed-down recipes from their grandmothers, aunties and roping in their relatives and friends they embarked on a new venture. They maintain the authenticity and originality of “Penang Peranakan Cuisine”.

For our lunch on the day we started with two entrees, pie tee, also known as top hats and the Nonya platter which consisted of a variety of Nonya favourites: popiah goreng, chicken meat roll, cucur udang, kerabu sotong and tauhu fish cake.  This was followed by mains: nasi ulam, ayam ponteh, nonya grilled brinjals and chap chye.  The meal was finished off with a traditional Nonya dessert of sago gula Melaka.

Little Heritage House is decorated in true Penang Peranakan style which you won’t see in any other type of restaurant in the Klang Valley.  After our meal we were taken upstairs to their truly exuberant banquet hall to have our photo taken sitting at a long table completely set up for a sumptuous banquet.

Hopefully all the Enakers enjoyed their lunch and the opportunity to taste a truly world class cuisine.
