Kalicut Restaurant, nestled in Damansara Heights, delivered a truly memorable culinary journey during our Enak lunch on April 18th, curated by the experienced host and Enaker Sujata Lulla. From the moment we stepped in, we were enveloped in the rich tapestry of Kerala and South Indian cuisine, accompanied by fascinating insights into the region’s culture and history, all shared by Sujata herself, resplendent in a traditional mundu from Kerala.

Our gastronomic adventure kicked off with an appetizing array of fish and vegetable cutlets accompanied by papadum, setting the stage for what was to come. The dipping sauces, especially the minty green one, added a refreshing burst of flavor to the mildly spicy cutlets, each bite a testament to the culinary prowess of Kalicut.

As the mains graced our tables, we were treated to a symphony of flavors and textures. The jeera rice, fragrant with scattered cumin, provided the perfect canvas for the delectable assortment of dishes served in small cast iron pans. The mutton chukka varuval, tender and richly spiced, stole the spotlight alongside the crispy chicken Kerala fry. Each dish showcased its unique character yet harmonized seamlessly, creating a culinary experience to remember.

The accompaniments, from the comforting spinach dal to the addictive deep-fried bitter gourd and potatoes, further elevated the meal, offering a delightful contrast of flavors and textures.

Dessert was a sweet finale to our feast, with the indulgent Payasam stealing the show with its aromatic blend of cardamom, saffron, vermicelli, and dried fruits. The sweet apam, served with coconut milk and brown sugar, provided a perfect balance of flavors, leaving us completely satisfied.

The thoughtful inclusion of a fruit platter for sharing and a choice of juices added a refreshing touch to the meal, ensuring that every aspect of our dining experience was meticulously curated.

With 22 Enak members and 3 guests, including the charming presence of Sujata’s mother, our lunch at Kalicut was not just a meal but a celebration of culture, community, and culinary excellence. And at RM50 per person inclusive of taxes, it was an absolute steal for the unforgettable experience we had.

In conclusion, Kalicut Restaurant offers more than just food; it’s a cultural journey that tantalizes the senses and nourishes the soul. Whether you’re a seasoned food enthusiast or simply curious to explore the flavors of Kerala and South India, Kalicut promises an enriching dining experience that you won’t soon forget.
