ENAK!  December 7, 2023 : Tasty Chapathi

We had our December Enak! in the beautiful northern Indian restaurant ‘Tasty Chapathi’ at the Curve.  All 21 Enak! members attended at the private dining room we had booked exclusively for this year-end Enak! event.  Each person paid Rm 50 for the set menu.

Northern Indian or Mughlai cuisine has its heritage in the Persian-speaking Moghuls who ruled India centuries ago. Their lavish way of life, love for luxury and sense of style are reflected in complex, spicy flavours and thick, creamy textures. Tasty Chapathi pays homage to what was once royal cuisine with a variety of rich, complex flavours to make you feel like Mughal royalty of yore.

The menu at Tasty Chapathi @The Curve is similar to its sister establishment on Jalan Ipoh. The restaurant serves both Vegetarian and Non Vegetarian dishes. During the lunch hour they serve Punjabi Thali sets, which we got for our Enakkers. A thali is an Indian-style meal made up of a selection of various dishes which are served on a platter. The purpose of the thali is to create a balanced and nutritional meal offering several different flavours. The food came in a beautiful silver half-moon-shaped thali with several bowls consisting of various dishes.

The vegetarian menu consisted of Paneer Tikka (grilled cheese cubes) and a mock mutton varvul. There were salads and potatoes in the Aloo Gobi, with the quintessential dhall. The meat menu had two pieces each of mutton kebabs (oblong-shaped minced mutton) and butter chicken. The butter chicken came in a creamy gravy and we enjoyed the slightly spicy flavour of this dish. The Butter Chicken was our favourite item on the set. The meat was tender, the gravy was creamy and flavourful. We had naan bread with it and that just soaked up the gravy beautifully. The mushroom fry was a first for many of us and looked and tasted similar to the Japanese tempura.

Both meals came with the traditional north Indian naan bread. For drinks we had a choice of either Orange or Watermelon juice. Lastly we were served Punjabi tea with gulab jamun.  Gulab Jamun is a milk-solid-based dessert served warm with a generous drizzle of syrup. It was a perfect way to end the meal. Punjabi Masala Tea was a firm favorite with everyone. We cannot recommend it enough. Made with fresh cow’s milk, the spices in it will make you feel oh! so good! Seriously, so far this is the taste that we have not found elsewhere. The sweetness and creaminess are just right.

As the final Enak! lunch for 2023 we were so happy to welcome so many new Enak! members including our Book Club 2 leader Nabila Ahmad, our book club members Datin Murni as well as Monica. It was fun to meet other first time Enakkers including George and Dalia Vasaris, Rita Cruz, Deby Suwito and Koh Kae Ling. Everyone enjoyed themselves and it was definitely a fabulous success.
