September 2024 - Islamic Arts Museum Curator Tour
On Wednesday, September 25th, the Malaysia Cultural Group enjoyed a curator-guided tour of the Islamic Museum of Malaysia.
We started out with Izuan taking us up to the Architecture Gallery where he discussed the importance of the domes and the concept of honeycomb design and its association with infinity. He pointed out particular features on several mosque models, including local Malay architecture.
Shahanaz took over in discussing various aspects of the Quaran as she pointed out the beautiful examples they have on display in the museum.
We enjoyed hearing details about Mogul jewelry, the tree of life coins, and even female rulers! The armory displays were quite detailed and well preserved. The tile and ceramic displays are worth a trip on their own, quite beautiful.
We’d like to thank our guides, Izuan and Shahanaz, as well as Oriana for her coordination of the event.
