History

The Malaysian Culture Group (MCG) was established in Kuala Lumpur in 1983.

Known formally as Kumpulan Kebudayaan Malaysia Kuala Lumpur dan Selangor, the MCG has close to 200 members, both Malaysian and international, who represent over 20 different nations.

Our members are united in discovering more about our host country and the region through a variety of activities.

2019
The 37th Annual General Meeting (AGM)

The 37th Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held at the Carcosa Seri Negara before these historical and heritage buildings were closed for preservation and conservation.

2017
Enak Extra was approved

Enak Extra was approved in May after great interest from Members asking to share food from their country. The first Enak Extra was a Japanese fusion lunch hosted by award-winning cookbook writer and member Kyoko Rabbetts at her residence in November.

2010
Enak! was born.

Founded by Member and former President Dawn Babcock to help Members take advantage of all the flavours Malaysia has to offer. The aim was to promote the appreciation of Malaysian food which is interwoven with the diverse cultures of Malaysia and/or may have a historical significance. The first visit was a classic Malaysian mamak - Nasi Kandar Pelita.

1983
As the Study Group Grew

As the study group grew, they were advised to apply for official recognition. The name didn't translate well into Bahasa Melayu, so with a small adjustment, the new version would be 'Kumpulan Kebudayaan Malaysia' and on 29th March 1983 the Malaysian Culture Group was born. Registered under the Societies Act 1966.

1970s
A Small Group formed of people wanting to know more about Malaysia.

A Small Group formed of people wanting to know more about Malaysia. Meeting once or twice a month at Museum Negara or in someone's home, they discovered more through Study Groups, Explorations and Tours. At this time, the group was known as the Malaysian Culture Study Group.
